The Best Time of Year to Move in Oklahoma
Weather, pricing, and availability broken down by season. Spoiler: October is quietly the best month.
Spring (March–May)
Weather: Wildly unpredictable. Tornado season peaks in April and May — a real consideration if you have a long truck drive. Pricing: Rising. Movers start filling up. Availability: Good in March, tight by May.
Summer (June–August)
Weather: Hot and humid. Loading a truck at noon in July in Tulsa is brutal. Pricing: Peak. Movers are 20–30% more expensive than off-season. Availability: Book 4+ weeks out or you will not get your date.
Summer is when most families move — school is out, leases end, colleges turn over. If your calendar has flexibility, do not move June through August.
Fall (September–November)
Weather: The sweet spot. Highs in the 70s, low humidity, minimal storms. Pricing: Prices ease starting mid-September. Availability: Open, especially mid-week.
October is the quietly-best month to move in Oklahoma. Weather is ideal, movers are less booked, and utility hookups happen faster.
Winter (December–February)
Weather: Cold snaps and the occasional ice storm can freeze a move day. Pricing: Cheapest of the year. Availability: Wide open. You can often book movers same-week.
If you can be flexible on the exact day and watch the forecast, winter is the budget option.
What does not change
Regardless of season: mid-month and mid-week is always cheaper than month-end weekends. If your lease allows a mid-month start, take it.
